A-Day Class Homework

The following homework assignment is only due for A-Day classes (1A, 2A, & 4A).
Write your own “Team 7B Law”
During our “From Bill to Law” simulation of a Congressional session, there was a bill presented regarding the right to a fair trial when receiving a pink slip.  While debating the bill, students had many different ideas on how the new law should be enforced.  We all agreed on the fact that a student should have the right to plead ‘guilty’ or ‘not guilty’ when given a pink slip.  We also agreed that if a student were to plead ‘not guilty’, then they would be able to plead their innocence in front of a jury of their peers.  Due to the fact that this bill was originally created and sponsored by the students of team 7B, the teachers are now putting it into your hands to create the rules and regulations of our new law.
Using the extended response format, write out some of the issues you feel should be addressed in the new law.  Consider some of the questions below.
·        Which students should serve on the jury?  How should the jury be selected?  What number of students should be on the jury?
·        Should the accused student represent themselves or hire another student as their lawyer?
·        Can a student with a large number of pink slips continue to plead ‘not guilty’ over and over again?  If not, what limits should be put in place?
·        Who should serve as the judge?
Don’t forget to use FRIESS to back up your ideas! (Facts, Reasons, Incidents, Examples, Statistics, & Sensory Details)
THIS HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENT WILL BE DUE MONDAY (2/11/13)
